Born in Bamako, Amity KONATE is a lady coming from the region of Segou. She spent most of her childhood traveling from the capital city to Niamina (region of Koulikoro) precisely in Djedabougou. She grew up in en environment favorable to music, for in her ethnic group music is not considered as taboo and restricted to griots only. Quite soon, she learnt to sing not only with her age mates but also with her family.

B.S.D: Can you introduce yourself to the readers.
A.K: I am Amity KONATE, born in Bamako but coming from Segou. I spent my
childhood in Niamina (Region of Koulikoro) more precisely in Djedabougou.

B.S.D: How did you become a singer? Are you a griot?
A.K: I am not a griot but a musician, in our area, in our ethnic
group music is free for all, it is not restricted to only griots as it is in some other areas. Anybody who wishes can embark with no problem, what you need is talent. In such en environment one can easily learn to sing. That is how I naturally learnt to sing with my age mate comrades with no one teaching me.

B.S.D: Did you benefit from supervision of other artists in order to acquire
experience?
A.K: In terms of proper supervision I would say no, nevertheless I was the chorus of
Adama Yalomba and Jah Youssouf before releasing my first cassette. That was to improve myself and better learn about the field of music.

B.S.D: You have just recorded your second tape with MALI K7SA, what motivated this choice?
A.K: In fact after a first unfruitful one, I discovered and learnt many things. I realized that I can count on MALI K7 SA which is a true production unit with a transparent management, and above all it has quality means (digital studio with 24 tracks). Shortly, trust accounts for my choice;

B.S.D: Now let’s go back to your new tape, what are the themes of your songs?
A.K: Plenty of things such as trade, love, conflicts, regrets in short “current
events”.

B.S.D: What type of music do you play?
A.K: I play the Bambara type of the Region of Segou?

B.S.D: What are the instruments used in your music?
A.K: I utilize the guitar, filen , djeli n’goni, djembe, tamani, and the guitar.

B.S.D: What are your ambitions with regard to this new release?
A.K: I aim at the confirmation firstly at the national level, and why not at the
international level ? I hope that all the Malians, if not music lovers will like this cassette. I am convinced I devoted so much effort to it and benefited from quality assistance, with all my heart, I wish that it suits the public taste.

B.S.D: What are your last words?
A.K: I say hello to everybody, and invite the audience to discover this new release, I promise they won’t be disappointed.
