Salimata
Diakité called Diagawara Sali Coming from Wassoulou, precisely Mariya-ferela, region of Yorobougoula , Sali is an artist who has been clever enough to put her genius to the service of her talent. She has mixed three styles that are: the djaga (traditional dance of the region), the sigui (the musical style of Mariya-ferela) and the kamalen n'goni to give the Diagawara. Like
most of the artist of Wassoulou, Sali learned how to sing since her young
age with her friends and her mother who also was a celebrity in the region.Newly arrived in Bamako, she is first remarked by the people of Wassoulou because of her style. After, due to her passages in Top Etoiles, she ameliorated her musical talent. She is creator of Diagawara and her album Daga Kolon is the one that gave her fame. In Bamako, as in all Mali the end of the eighties was marked by the return of artists of the Wassoulou on stage. Even if they are numerous, Sali is usually invited by the Wassoulou manifestations to animate. She has
a good reputation for the local producers. Thus, she signed for her first
album at Samassa records. It makes her talent known by every one.Amadou Cissé, an other producer propo sed
her to produce her. "I changed the producer, not for money but to be
in the best conditions of work. The most important for me is the quality
of work, money will come after" she said. The recording of this album
was made in Abidjan (Ivory Coast) because, as the artists said "the
studios in Bamako were not good enough, I wanted the recording to be made
in Ivory Coast to have Ivorian experience and have the best conditions".Unfortunately, she wasn't satisfied of it. "I wasn't satisfied of the promotion, this work is in chain, after the production an album, it must be selled". In 1999, Diagawara Sali signed by Mali K7 for her 3e album entitled Daga Kolon. Produced and distributed by Mali K7, Daga Kolon had a good success in the musical landscape. The griots are no more the only one to make music, it now a profession and production structures are multiplying. Le diagawara imposes itself as a new style like the sogonikoun, le didadi, le bari... In 2003, Diagawara Sali signs with Mali K7 for three albums. She has just finished the recording of the first at the studio Bogolan. This album shows that the artist has a real talent. |
