Diata
Sya
The band Diata Sya started from nothing. Trio formed by Madani Touré (Chanana)
Moussa Koné (N.Bee) and Makamba Sidibé (Krimo) that took it first steps
in music in 1991-92, in the streets of a popular district of the Malian
capital.
The average age being 25 years old, they are still optimistic despite
the real difficulties of artistic life.
Their style is Rap - Ragga - Hip Hop Hard cord and often Reggae. The Diata
Sya conquered their fans with songs that deal with the hard reality of
the young Malian's daily life: unemployment, poverty, woman, health, family,
the heedlessness of the politics for the youth problems… factors that
lead them to find an arm: music. "our music source is our cultural
and artistic heritage and also some Jamaican artists such as: Antony B
; Sizla ; Capoltone ; Junior Kelis and most of all is Shaba Ranchs to
whom we used to listen a lot when we were younger and he's the one who
gave us envy to sing. It far after that we began to listen to Mc Solar;
IAM and some band of here such as sofa ; Alpha ; les Rabba boys…"
said Madani Touré (Shanana).
In short, in ten years the band has given representations on only Malian
scenes through parties, competitions, festivals, national and regional
tours for NGO, international firms and republic institutions.
To reflect the African realities, the black boys changed their name for
to incarnate the warrior black strength of the greats of the continent
and particularly in Mali such as d'El hadj Omar, Babemba, Soundiata, Samory
and many other… the band began to fight to make the young African people
conscious in order to stop ignorance.
Shanana's strong voice and the jerky and hard cord flow of N'bee and the
contemporary choreography of Krimo have already make a lot of victims
and seem to continue. Soon (July 2003) their so much awaited first album
will be available to crown their numerous successes of the ten past years
in underground concerts.

Rokia
Traoré, a cultural identity
"I'm Malian and I'm proud of it. Life is a choice and I've chosen to
be like I'm for the time being. I feel very well as I am, there is some
ethnic groups here in Mali who never braid but shave. The show-biz has
its exigencies, between the rehearsing, photos, interviews and travels,
there no much time for hair. To have a shaved head is also a reality of
our country. See, there are also people who tell me to use lightening
creams, if I was doing anything my fans tell me to do; I wouldn't be myself
any more. For the time being, I feel very well as I am".
The Congolese
government goes to Wemba's aid
